Oliver Twist handlar om en pojke vid namn Oliver Twist. Han föds i staden Portsea, i sydöstra England, både modern (som dog strax efter förlossningen) och fadern är okänd. Oliver vårdas på fattighuset genom kommunens försorg, med stor knapphet i kost och omsorg. När så Oliver en dag begär lite mer mat hamnar han genast i arresten. Därefter beslutas att han ska lära sig ett yrke genom att börja som lärling hos en begravningsentreprenör. Där trivs han ganska bra förutom att han blir retad av en annan lärling. Efter ett slagsmål med denne rymmer vår huvudperson för att till fots ta sig till London.

På vägen träffar han Jack Dawkins, kallad Filuren (i vissa utgåvor även känd som Räven), som lovar honom mat och husrum hos Mr. Fagin när de kommer fram till huvudstaden. Oliver Twist or the Parish Boy’s Progress is Charles Dicken’s another masterpiece that appeared in serial form in two years from to and appeared in the book shape in in three volumes. This popularity of being published in the book shape even before its serialization ended demonstrates its force and strength as a story. The novel was adapted for various films, plays, tableaus, and course books across the globe. Also, multiple Academy Award-winning motion pictures. This masterpiece depicted poverty-stricken London and how poor conditions can lead children into crime. The story of the novel revolves around an orphan child, Oliver Twist, who lives in dirty places where innocent children undergo forced slavery, rigorous child labor, and untold sufferings. Yet the fog of these sufferings does not impact the purity and innocence of Oliver, leading him to win the ultimate battle for survival.

    Oliver Twist was the second novel written bygd Charles Dickens.  It was initially published in monthly installments that began in February of  

    It&#;s interesting to note that the publication of Oliver Twist began before the monthly publication of The Pickwick Papers ended. The two novels overlapped for nine months. Additionally, Dickens started Nicholas Nickleby (also issued in monthly installments) before Twist finished publication.  Those two novels overlapped for nine months as well.
